Scotty v3.0.0 for win32 Aug 2004 Snapshot Release 14. August 2004 NOTE: ===== This is a snapshot version, it is not a release version. It should be considered beta and may crash and burn your computer -- you have been warned. INSTALLATION: ============= Running scotty300-snap20040814.exe will start the installer of Scotty v3.0.0 for WindowsNT 4.0, WindowsNT 3.51, Windows9x, Win XP and other versions. It may work with newer Windows versions, but this is untested. Note: This installer is different from the previously used installer, which included a stand-alone Tk/Tcl installer. Because Tk/Tcl v8.4 is now required, but the license of the ActiveState Tk/Tcl binary release sucks, a precompiled Tk/Tcl is included. If you have Tk/Tcl installed from a ActiveState distribution, it may work fine, but it may fail completely. This version includes a precompiled Tcl 8.4.7 and Tk 8.4.7 and the installation path is hardcoded to C:\Tcl . Scotty v3.0.0 contains two packages: Tkined v1.5.0 and Tnm v3.0.0 . Tkined is a graphical network management station written in Tk/Tcl, Tnm the network management extension for Tcl. The installations does not include the spiffy things avail before: manuals stuff Tkined can be started by running: C:\Tcl\bin\wish84.exe C:\Tcl\bin\tkined150 COPYRIGHT: ========== See the file license.terms for the copyright of the scotty package. This binary distribution is maintained by Gaertner Datensysteme Gbr, Braunschweig, Germany. Known Problems (taken from the RELNOTES): ========================================= WindowsNT 4.0 Platform: ----------------------- Tnm: The icmp.dll returns timing results with a granularity of 10 ms. Tnm: The dns module expects a configured DNS-Server entry (or more than one entry) set in the TCP configuration on the host. If none is found, it expects a Server running on the host system. If no DNS service is avail, a timeout will occur. A possible workaround is to setup a nameserver (eg. the well tested bind release) or to name explicit a server via the -s option of the dns command. [Note: this belongs to Win9x and WinNT 3.51 too.] Tnm: The returned string for DisplayString formatted is of the format xx:xx:xx:... instead of the cleartext string. [Note: This is known to happen on Windows9x too.] Tnm/Tkined: After closing the tkined task, sometimes the tclsh84.exe tools-processes are not terminated correctly (visible in the task-manager). [Note: This is known to happen on Windows9x too.] Tkined: When exiting tkined sometimes a exception is displayed. This is a pointer to garbled memory within the tk's internal menu structure and will hopefully vanish with Tcl v8.2 release. [Note: This is known to happen on Windows9x too.] Tkined: A log-window closed via the x-knob in the top-right window-bar does not pop up again (in opposite of using the log-menu's close item). [Note: This is known to happen on Windows9x too.] Installer: With the new installer there is currently no startmenu entry created. Un-installer: With the new installer there is no uninstall information created. Windows9x Platform: ------------------- Tnm: Mass sending of icmp-requests is known to fail with an error in cw3215.dll. The reason is unknown. General Errors: --------------- To start tkined you have to run: C:\Tcl\bin\wish84.exe C:\Tcl\bin\tkined150 Well, I'd suggest you create a shortcut. Have fun. -- (schoenfr)
